Information Security Advisory Committee — Fiscal Year 2010
Structure
The Vice President and Chief Technology Officer appoints the Committee members. The Director of Information and Systems Security/Compliance will serve as chair. The chairperson may appoint ad hoc task forces to deal with specific issues, as appropriate. Members are selected from various schools and departments to provide a depth and breadth of experience and knowledge about the University and its business, and to offer that expertise in the institution of an effective Information and Systems Security/Compliance Program (Security Program).
Purpose
The Committee provides guidance on the management of information security risk. The Committee members with the Director of Information and Systems Security/Compliance review, develop, and recommend security solutions that serve the University, as defined by the Core Elements and Components within the Security Program and other mechanisms, as appropriate. The Committee reviews, develops and recommends policy and standards, as needed.
Operating Principles
- The Committee meetings are scheduled bimonthly or as required.
- Members participate in the development and review of documentation (e.g., Core Component profiles and plans, policy, standards, proposals).
- Members provide guidance on business processes and objectives.
- Members participate in discussions that result in recommending and prioritizing Core Component definitions, profiles and plans.
- The Security Program promotes the best utilization of people, process and technology resources, while maintaining an appropriate balance between service and security.
