IT Services and Support is a customer-focused organization that works across the University to support students, faculty, and staff in their use of technology. The following teams work closely with technology leaders in the colleges and schools, as well as colleagues in the University Libraries and Searle Center for Advancing Learning and Teaching, to deliver a portfolio of integrated services.

Academic Software Development

Architect – Bill Parod, 847-491-5368 bill-parod@northwestern.edu

Collaborate with key stakeholders and faculty to develop innovative infrastructure and tools in the areas of teaching and learning, research, and campus life. Recent projects include extensions to Canvas for discussion analytics and visualization, AI Chatbots for technical support, and Natural Language Processing for open-response survey analysis.

IT Communications

Communications Specialist - Christine Ganjani 847-491-2699 c-ganjani@northwestern.edu

Inform the University community of new and changing technology and raise awareness of Northwestern IT services and resources that support the academic, business, and research activities of the University.

Develop and execute Northwestern IT communication strategy; consult with internal partners and other University business and administrative units to support communications initiatives. Provide guidance for internal and external use of the Northwestern IT brand.

Manage Northwestern IT website content, architecture, and design; administer site contributor access and training.

Media and Design

Director — Harlan Wallach 847-467-4684 wallach@northwestern.edu

Deliver learning space design and consultation services to support University schools and departments in making informed decisions regarding audio-visual technologies, digital signage, room-based videoconferencing solutions, and special event support.
 
Services encompass support for a broad range of academic and research initiatives; design and development of cloud based software applications, mobile apps, and websites; media production for promotional and instructional videos, MOOCS (Massive Open Online Courses), animations and visualizations.

Research Computing Services

Director — Joe Paris 847-491-5365 j-paris@northwestern.edu

Deliver high performance computing resources for conducting in-depth computational analysis. Services include research data storage, access to specialized software, and individual consultations regarding data visualizations, grant writing, data workflow, bioinformatics, and the use of national computing facilities.

Teaching and Learning Technologies

Director — Victoria Getis 847-467-3891 vgetis@northwestern.edu

Foster innovative learning experiences through the exploration of effective teaching techniques and technologies. Services include Canvas, the primary platform used to facilitate teaching, learning, and collaboration; individual consultations and workshops; as well as instructional design for blended, fully online, and massive open online courses.

Technology Support Services

Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 support for all NUIT services. Work in partnership with technology leaders in schools and departments to coordinate service delivery between the central IT units and distributed IT units. Proactively offer services to enable the University community to more effectively manage their personal compute environment that includes maintaining the infrastructure and applications necessary to support endpoint management.
