Service Oriented Architecture: Involvement & Training

Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) opens up possibilities for the development of IT services and solutions at Northwestern, but it is a new methodology and technology for many at the University. The first way to get involved with the community and learn how to leverage SOA is by joining the SOA distribution list for monthly updates on initiative status, event announcements and more.

Community of Practice

Stay in touch with a growing community of SOA practitioners by joining the SOA Notification distribution list. To learn more about SOA developers can also join the Northwestern Yammer SOA group where they can ask about existing services or begin a conversation about starting a new service.

The SOA Community of Practice is holding a kick-off event aimed at developers and business analysts in winter quarter. Specifics will be distributed to the SOA Notification list.

Training

Carnegie Mellon’s Software Engineering Institute (SEI) offers full-day SOA courses for interested groups and individuals across the University. SEI’s training is split into a one-day “basic” SOA course targeted to managers and business analysts, and a two-day “advanced” SOA course geared toward dedicated SOA developers, project managers, and software architects.

Sessions are scheduled this summer in Evanston for both courses. To sign up for one or both of these all-day classes, click the links below and log in with your NetID and NetID password. Enrollment is limited, so sign up as soon as possible.

SOA Steering Group

A steering group of invested collaborators is working to propagate the use of SOA at Northwestern. These members include:
