Job Summary
Under minimal direction, the SR AT Systems
Engineer is responsible for the evaluation, appraisal, design and
integration of research systems and applications essential to faculty
projects of NUIT Academic Technologies. This position works closely
with the Architect for Visualization, the AT Director and with other AT
software architects in the area of new research applications for use by
NU faculty. This employee also works on AT contracts and grant projects
with NU faculty.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Evaluating and testing new research applications for adoption by AT and by NU faculty;
- Overseeing the installation, maintenance, configuration and
integrity of new AT software applications, particularly in the area of
research applications;
- Demonstrating the highest level of competence in working with
faculty to plan for new research systems for the University, as well as
working with AT Software Developers on research services, visualization
services, scholarly technology and distributed learning projects;
- Forecasting and anticipating the need for new services to improve
NU's standing as a state-of-the-art educational and research
environment;
Recommending and presenting coherent arguments for the integration of new technologies into existing services;
- Keeping current on new technologies as required to meet the needs and services of AT;
- Collaborating with faculty in writing the technical aspects of
grant proposals for the funding of new initiatives for research and
scholarly technologies;
- Performing other related duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree, or the equivalent
combination of education, training and experience from which comparable
skills can be acquired;
- Ability to develop and support software evaluations for faculty
research applications, as well to support hardware implementation,
integration, installation and configuration plans;
- Extensive knowledge of web services, business workflow systems and research computing applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- A graduate degree or the equivalent
combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge
and abilities can be acquired;
- 5+ years' related experience.
