Job Summary
The Data Architect will be part of a technical team responsible for deploying and implementing analytical solutions for various constituencies university-wide. This person will translate business needs into long term architecture solutions and be responsible for data design, database architecture, metadata and repository creation within a data warehouse environment. This person will define, design and build dimensional databases including evaluate the reusability of existing data for additional analysis and conduct data cleansing to rid systems of old, unused or duplicate data. The Data Architect will review object and data models and the metadata repository to structure data for better management and quicker access.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Designing the logical model and translating user requirements into appropriate data structures;
- Assisting Lead Architect engineer and DBA to assure the design follows current data warehousing best practices;
- Assisting ETL Developers to determine and implement business and transformation rules, developing source to target mappings, and providing for optimal ETL loads;
- Supporting ETL scripts and implementing physical database structures;
- Designing and implementing OLAP cubes, reports, and report definitions;
- Developing semantic layer or BI objects, meta-data and BI tool documentation for end users;
- Assisting in troubleshooting post-production performance issues;
Performing other related duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in computer science, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired;
- 2-4 years experience as a data warehouse designer or data architect for a data warehouse;
- Oracle experience, including Oracle Grid architecture;
- Detailed experience implementing the principles and practices of Data Modeling, and significant data modeling experience (star schema), preferably using Erwin;
- Exposure to ETL tools, including an understanding of how they interact with Oracle;
Meta-data management experience;
- Excellent SQL skills;
- Working knowledge of Kimball methodologies;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as presentation and interpersonal skills;
- Strong experience and desire to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- A master's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired;
- Previous experience in a higher education setting;
- Metadata modeling experience;
- Cognos BI experience.
