Sr Systems Analyst/Programmer

Job Summary
Under general direction, the Senior Systems Analyst / Programmer formulates and
defines system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to develop
or modify applications related to the University's suite of Student Loan
systems. This position works as a member of a cross-functional team with both
functional and technical staff, prepares detailed specifications, designs /
develops all aspects of data conversion and builds application tables, pages and
reports. This position also codes individual modules and complex functions and
assures appropriate software integration and external interface development. The
incumbent must be experienced in full project life cycle application software
development with strong business analysis and technical skills.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Coordinating and performing development activities related to the analysis,
design, coding, testing, implementation and support of a web-based Student Loan
system, interfaces with the University's student system and interfaces with
systems hosted by third party providers;
- Making effective use of application
development tools, operating systems, databases and network infrastructure to
create efficient, well-designed and easily maintainable systems;
- Providing
guidance to clients and coworkers, acting as a liaison between vendors and the
University community for particular components of the systems environment;
- Developing requirements, specifications and test scripts for the development
or procurement of application systems;
- Maintaining the integrity of systems
through problem detection, resolution and prevention techniques, including
performance analysis and tuning, debugging and security design;
- Analyzing
and modifying established Student Loan processes to maintain effectiveness
related to functional requirements and changing hardware/software environments;
- Preparing documentation and training other team members to effect knowledge
transfer of application systems;
- Creating project plans and developing
estimates for project assignments;
- Performing other related duties as
required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or the equivalent
combination of education, training and experience from which comparable skills
can be acquired;
- Minimum of five years' experience in a professional
information technology environment, developing web-based application software;
- Experience using a systematic project life cycle approach for problem
analysis and resolution as well as the resourceful evaluation of solution
alternatives; ability to effectively present ideas verbally and in writing;
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with a broad
cross-section of the University community;
- Ability to formulate realistic
plans and define anticipated results;
- Ability to be helpful, respectful,
approachable and team-oriented to build strong working relationships and a
positive work environment;
- Required technical skills include Oracle, Java,
PL/SQL, and UNIX/Perl scripting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with student loan applications or banking systems in general;
- Full life cycle methodology, including iterative approaches, JAD based
approaches and prototyping;
- Experience with the Oracle Java development tool
set (JDeveloper, JSF, ADF Faces and ADF BC).
