Job Summary

The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for participating in the implementation, maintenance and support of automated networked processing systems and their components, and or other information technologies. This position performs and schedules installations and upgrades to software packages and ensures that it is in accordance with established IT policies and procedures. The Administrator is responsible for managing appropriate software solutions to ensure server data integrity and do the monitoring and tuning of the system to achieve optimum performance level.

This position works a rotating on call 24/7 and weekend maintenance and upgrade work schedule.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Working with the other ITCS Groups, to provide hardware, software and networking solutions;
  • Installing and maintaining applications systems software;
  • Participating in the configuration of systems and updates;
  • Analyzing system performance and resolving problems or making appropriate recommendations;
    Prioritizing and resolving issues between the customer and ITCS team members using problem change management database;
  • Maintaining history of records and related documentation;
  • Maintaining policies and standard procedures to increase system uptime;
  • Participating in the support and implementation of automated server environments for hardware, operating system and applications;
  • Attending meetings with clients, team and other ITCS teams;
  • Developing and maintaining in depth knowledge of application systems;
  • Prioritizing and resolving issues using change tickets between the ITCS team's members and clients for problem change management;
  • Maintaining history of records and related documentation;
  • Participating in disaster recovery planning and exercises including backup recovery procedures and higher availability configurations;
  • Monitoring security alerts and application systems and working with other staff to ensure that all appropriate patches are applied in an automated and timely fashion;
  • Applying new application software releases and patches as necessary;
  • Ensuring production availability;
  • Identifying training needs and keeps current on application system technologies;
  • Performing other related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in an analytical field or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired;
  • 3-5 years experience working with Oracle systems;
  • The ability to prioritize, plan, organize, and schedule in an efficient and productive manner with attention to detail;
  • Ability to facilitate open and effective communication, cooperation and teamwork within and outside of one's own team;
  • Demonstrated awareness of political factors and "hidden agendas" as well as the ability to build an informal network to influence information sources;
  • The ability to formulate realistic plans and define anticipated results;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or the equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired;
  • Strong knowledge of operating systems;
  • A minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in the application software;
  • Previous experience monitoring customer satisfaction and providing suggestions to improve quality and value to the customer;
  • Demonstrated ability to find common ground to accommodate the conflicting needs and wants of different stakeholders;
  • The ability to devise and implement clearly defined strategies to achieve business objectives;
  • Demonstrated understanding of natural sources of conflict and ability to act to prevent or soften them;
  • Familiarity with multiple computer applications including MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, email, web browsers, and PeopleSoft.
