Job Summary
The AV Systems Engineer Associate oversees technical videoconferencing and AV IT support and maintenance of identified technology enhanced classrooms and learning spaces for NUIT while under direct supervision. The AV Systems Engineer Associate provides basic training for faculty and other end users for classroom facilities. This position develops and upkeeps both in-room and on-line documentation.
This position requires the ability to climb on a ladder to a height of 20 feet, carry heavy hardware such as CPUs, large venue video projectors (30-50 lbs) and walk to buildings that are several blocks from one another. This position may be required to work the occasional evening and or Saturday and must carry NU radio, pager and cell phone. This position is required to commute to the Chicago campus as needed.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Supporting all NUIT smart classrooms including routine diagnostic functions and implementing defined maintenance actions;
- Responding to hotline (7-ROOM) requests for immediate assistance in classrooms;
- Monitoring and taking appropriate corrective action on daily basis in AV IT supported media classrooms;
- Maintaining an inventory of AV supplies (i.e., lamps, batteries and misc. backup equipment);
- Maintaining documentation for technology enhanced classrooms and videoconferencing facilities (in-room and on-line), including documentation of Remedy help desk calls and creation and maintenance of help knowledge base;
- Supporting all NUIT videoconferencing facility activities, including advance conference needs assessment and connections tests, in-conference assistance, user training and troubleshooting;
- Training and orientating all technology enhanced classrooms and videoconferencing facilities, including individual training sessions as needed for faculty and guest lecturers;
- Supporting webcasting special events as needed, including advance testing and same day venue support;
- Maintaining best practices in room design and technology implementation for long term support and ease of use;
- Performing other related duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications - A bachelor's degree in an analytical field or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired;
- One to three years related professional experience in the AV industry. Must be able to understand pedagogical needs and support teaching and learning activities as they specifically related to classroom technologies;
- Demonstrated knowledge of video conferencing systems (PolyCom, Tandberg, and or Radvision) and technical proficiency in several computing and networking technologies (Windows and OSK);
- Demonstrated experience with Crestron products (or comparable). Understanding of Crestron's RoomView, eControl and eDatalog;
- Familiarity with various forms of distance collaboration tools, such as videoconferencing, desktop sharing, web conferencing, etc;
- Solid background and experience in desktop support;
- Ability to effectively analyze VC and AV system problems under pressure is a must;
- Ability to maintain respectful and effective working relationships with a variety of parties throughout the university community;
- Ability to work independently;
- Ability to work closely with student employees.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3-5 years related professional experience with videoconferencing;
- Limited SIMPL Windows programming, VT Pro and knowledge of Extron products and related control systems;
- Experience working in a higher education environment.
