Job Summary
Leads in the design, implementation, and maintenance of Voice Communications systems and services, including, but not limited to, VoIP, TDM, SIP services, automated call distribution, voice mail, unified messaging, audio conferencing, Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) and mobility;
Working Conditions:
Responsible for facilities on both the Evanston and Chicago campuses. Regular visits to all facilities are required.
This position is a member of the NUIT emergency response team and may be called at any time to address emergency situations on site on either campus.
On a rotating basis, is responsible to the Service Operations group as the 7x24 on-call resource for 2nd and 3rd level problem triage.
Specific Responsibilities
- Leads in the design, implementation, and maintenance of Voice Communications systems and services, including, but not limited to, VoIP, TDM, SIP services, automated call distribution, voice mail, unified messaging, audio conferencing, Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) and mobility;
- Evaluates new and emerging technologies; recommends solutions that address the customer satisfaction and business needs of the organization;
- Performs day-to-day operational activities for maintaining the hybrid IP PBX system including, but not limited to, system maintenance and patching, backups, configuration, updating and documentation;
- Provides 2nd and 3rd tier support to the Service Operations unit through a periodic on-call rotation; Consults with Service Operations and users, diagnoses and resolves problems in a timely fashion while stressing customer service; Proactively evaluates systems and resolves any known issues while avoiding user impact;
- Maintains expertise on industry best practices and trends applicable to the responsibilities of this position, through professional publications, outside contacts, and ongoing professional development;
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, telecommunications, or related field;
Seven (7) or more years of hands-on experience in a large, complex telecommunications both TDM and VoIP;
- Subject Matter Expertise in SIP, traditional (TDM) PBX platforms, VoIP and H.323 signaling;
- Operational expertise with Cisco Call Manager, Avaya Communication Manager or Nortel CS2100 platform in a 5000+ user base production environment;
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot effectively end-to-end in a complex, large scale environment;
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP protocol suite and Voice Signaling;
- Prior experience in leading deployment of a large-scale voice communications platform;
Preferred Qualifications
- Cisco CCVP, Nortel NCSS-CS2100, or Avaya ACS Certification;
- Subject Matter Expertise in FMC, ACD, unified messaging, video, conferencing, and mobility;
- Hands-on experience with switching and routing protocols including BGP, OSPF and MPLS;
