Set Up for Online Directory (Apple Mail) 

Note: This page covers configuring your e-mail client to use Northwestern's Online Directory (LDAP) for Apple Mail. The instructions provided only cover the latest version of that particular client we support. Instructions for previous versions may be similar, but not exact.

1. Select Mail > Preferences.
2. Click Composing. A window similar to the following will appear:

3. Click the Configure LDAP... button. A window similar to the following will appear:

4. Click the plus + button in the lower left portion of the window. A window similar to the following will appear:
   

   LDAP Server Entry Window

   1. Type Northwestern LDAP into the Name: field.
   2. Type directory.northwestern.edu into the Server: field.
   3. Type dc=northwestern,dc=edu into the Search Base: field.
   4. Type 389 into the Port: field.
   5. Select Subtree from the Scope: drop down menu.
5. Click Save. A window similar to the following will appear:

6. Click the Done button.
