Switch from POP to IMAP (Eudora for Macintosh)

Note: This page covers changing a previously configured POP connection for Eudora to use IMAP. The instructions provided only cover the latest version of that particular client we support. Instructions for previous versions may be similar, but not exact.

  1. Select Special => Settings….
  2. Select Checking Mail from the left-hand portion of the window. A window similar to the following will appear:

    1. Select the IMAP radio button.
    2. Un-check the Save Password checkbox if it is checked.
  3. Select SSL from the left-hand portion of the window. A window similar to the following will appear:

    1. Select None from the SSL for POP: drop-down menu.
    2. Select None from the SSL for SMTP: drop-down menu.
    3. Select Required (Alternate Port) from the SSL for IMAP: drop-down menu.
    4. Check Maximum Compatibility under Standard Port SSL Negotiation.
    5. Check Maximum Compatibility under Alternate Port SSL Negotiation.
  4. Select Kerberos from the left-hand portion of the window. A window similar to the following will appear:

    1. Un-check Use Kerberos.
    2. Un-check Use Kerberos V/GSSAPI for POP3.
  5. Select IMAP from the left-hand portion of the window. A window similar to the following will appear:

    1. Un-check the Authenticate with cleartext passwords only checkbox if it is checked.
    2. Check the Run junk scoring plugins on the IMAP account checkbox.
    3. Check the Attempt to create Junk and Trash mailboxes checkbox.
  6. Click OK to save your changes.
