Set Up for POP (Eudora for Windows)
Note: This page covers first time user instructions for configuring their e-mail client to use POP (Post Office Protocol) for Eudora. The instructions provided only cover the latest version of that particular client we support. Instructions for previous versions may be similar, but not exact.

If you are upgrading your version of Eudora, your settings remain the same. If this is your first time using Eudora, you will see a window similar to the following:

Click Yes. A window similar to the following will appear:

Click Cancel .A window similar to the following will appear:

- Click Yes.
- Select Tools => Options….

Select Getting Started in the left-hand portion of the window. A window similar to the following will appear:

- Type your full name, nickname, or whatever you prefer into the Real name: field.
- Type your e-mail address into the Return Address: field. Use your alias@northwestern.edu, e.g. b-mcgee@northwestern.edu

Type the name of your mail server into Mail Server (Incoming):. Your mail server is one of the following:
- merle.it.northwestern.edu
- lulu.it.northwestern.edu
- casbah.it.northwestern.edu
- hecky.it.northwestern.edu Note: Some departments have their own mail servers. If your mail server is not listed above, see your UNITS representative for the name of your mail server.
- Type your NetID into the User Name: field.

Type your SMTP server provided to you by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) into the SMTP Server: field if it is different than your incoming mail server.
Note: If you are connecting to NUNet through an Internet Service Provider (ISP) other than NU, you need to obtain the name of your ISP's SMTP server and enter it into SMTP Server: if you meet all of the following conditions:
- You have an e-mail account on casbah, lulu, hecky or merle.
- You use a third-party Internet Service Provider (ISP) such as America Online or InterAccess, or a cable modem/DSL to access the Internet.
- You send mail to persons outside of NUNet (northwestern.edu).
- Check Allow authentication.

Select Checking Mail from the left-hand portion of the window. A window similar to the following will appear:

- Check Send on check.
- Un-check Save Password if it is checked.
- Select Required, Alternate Port from the Secure Sockets when Receiving drop-down menu.

Select Incoming Mail from the left-hand portion of the window. A window similar to the following will appear:

- Select POP.
- Un-check Leave Mail on Server if it is checked.
- Select Passwords.

Select Sending Mail from the left-hand portion of the window. A window similar to the following will appear:

- Check Allow authentication.
- Check Immediate send.
- Check Send on check.
- Un-check Use submission port (587) if it is checked.
- Select Never from the Secure Sockets when Sending drop-down menu.

Select Kerberos from the left-hand portion of the window. A window similar to the following will appear:

- Select the Off radio button from the Kerberos Authentication: field.
- Select the Off radio button from the Kerberos 4 (POP only): field.
- Click OK to save your changes.
