Set Up for Online Directory (Windows Mail)

Note: This page covers configuring your e-mail client to use Northwestern's Online Directory (LDAP) for Windows Mail. The instructions provided only cover the latest version of that particular client we support. Instructions for previous versions may be similar, but not exact.

  1. From the Tools menu, select Accounts.... A window similar to the following will appear:

  2. Click the Add... button. A window similar to the following will appear:

  3. Select the Directory Service icon, then click Next. A window similar to the following will appear:

  4. Type directory.northwestern.edu into the Internet Directory (LDAP) server: field, then click Next. A window similar to the following will appear:

  5. Click No, then click Next. A window similar to the following will appear:

  6. Click Finish. A window similar to the following will appear:

  7. Select directory.northwestern.edu, then click Properties. A window similar to the following will appear:

    1. Type Northwestern LDAP into the Directory Service Account field.
    2. Type directory.northwestern.edu into the Server name: field.
  8. Select the Advanced tab. A window similar to the following will appear:

    1. Type 100 into the Maximum number of searches to return: field.
    2. Type dc=northwestern,dc=edu into the Search base: field.
  9. Click OK to save your changes. A window similar to the following will appear:

  10. Click Close.
