Set Up for Online Directory (Thunderbird-Mac)

Note: This page covers configuring your e-mail client to use Northwestern's Online Directory (LDAP) for Thunderbird. Instructions below only cover the latest version of Thunderbird we support; instructions for previous versions may be similar, but not exact.

  1. From the Tools menu, select Account Settings.... A window similar to the following will appear:

  2. Select Composition & Addressing from the left-hand portion of the window. A window similar to the following will appear:

    1. Select the Use a different LDAP Server: radio button.
    2. Click the Edit Directories... button. A window similar to the following will appear:

  3. Click the Add button. A window similar to the following will appear:

    1. Type Northwestern into the Name: field.
    2. Type directory.northwestern.edu into the Hostname: field.
    3. Type dc=northwestern,dc=edu into the Base DN: field.
  4. Select the Advanced tab. A window similar to the following will appear:

    1. Type 100 into the Don't return more than field.
    2. Type (objectclass=*) into the Search Filter: field.
  5. Click OK to save. A window similar to the following will appear:

    • Select Northwestern from the Select an LDAP Directory Server field.
  6. Click OK to close the window. A window similar to the following will appear:

  7. Click OK to save your changes.
