Faculty and Staff E-mail Forwarding
Official Northwestern electronic mail stored in mailboxes centrally hosted by NUIT may be forwarded to another e-mail address.
As an active member of the NU community, there may be some cases in which you will need to forward e-mail to another account. However, in the best interest of University security and data integrity, NUIT does not recommend forwarding e-mail by faculty or staff.
Some schools and departments provide e-mail accounts that are not centrally hosted on NUIT servers. If you have recently moved to a new school or department, check with your local IT support staff as to your new school or department e-mail practices.
If you are retiring from the University, you are eligible to keep your mailbox or have your e-mail forwarded to a non-University account for an indefinite period of time.
If you are leaving the University, your e-mail may be forwarded to a non-University account for one year.
Contact your local IT support or call the NUIT Support Center 847-491-HELP(4357) if you need help forwarding e-mail.
Note: Faculty and staff planning to be out of the office for business or vacation can set a vacation message.
Follow the steps below to forward University e-mail to another e-mail account:
- Go to Edit Your Directory Information.
- Click the View/Edit Your Information button.
- Click Modify to the right of the Mailbox field.
- Add the new e-mail address.
- Click the Change button.
