Additional IMAP Folder Space for Faculty
Every e-mail account on the NUIT mail servers—faculty, staff and student—has a 50MB inspool quota. Users are notified regularly as they approach their inspool quota limit. Once you reach that limit, your mail is archived and a fee of $100 is charged to restore it.
To avoid having your e-mail archived, it's important to remove your incoming mail out of the inspool and download it to your desktop or laptop computer. You do this either with an e-mail client to download mail as you check it, or (if necessary) by setting up IMAP folders on the server so you can check mail remotely and move it from inspool into folder space temporarily until you can download it. In addition to the 50MB inspool quota, IMAP users are allocated 50MB of server space for storage of mail folders.
Ordering
Faculty can purchase an additional 50MB of server folder space for $3.00 per month. This can be purchased on a month-by-month basis and turned on and off as required.
An order for additional IMAP space can be submitted to NUIT User Services at it-services@northwestern.edu by an authorized departmental work order contact. All requests must include:
- NetID of individual who will receive additional space
- Name of individual who will receive additional space
- CUFS billing number to be used for the monthly charge
IMPORTANT: Once extra folder space is obtained, if a user turns it off before folder contents have been brought to under 50MB, the folders will be locked. None of the mail on the server is backed up, including the folder space. Please be sure to "clean out" mail folders on the server before requesting that extra folder space be turned off.
