NU Validate: Identity Management System

NU Validate, the University's new identity management system, allows for convenient management of University NetIDs and NetID passwords. University faculty, staff, and students have self-service access to NU Validate to manage the following:

  • Change and reset NetID passwords
  • Establish and update NetID security questions
  • Check NetID status
  • Remove NetID services
  • Edit Online Directory information

Fall 2009 Transition to NU Validate

Throughout fall quarter 2009, University NetIDs will be transitioned from the existing identity management system, SNAP, to NU Validate in a phased manner. University community members will be notified at the time of their NetID transition. Once the transition is complete, users will be requested to log in to NU Validate and establish NetID security questions and answers for future self-service resets for forgotten or expired NetIDs.

NetIDs associated with the following schools and departments have been transitioned to NU Validate:

  • Bienen School of Music
  • McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science

  • Feinberg School of Medicine
  • The Graduate School
  • School of Continuing Studies
  • Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary
  • Seabury-Western Theological Seminary
  • Center for Talent Development
  • University Library
  • University Enrollment
  • Northwestern University Press

How do I update/establish my security questions in NU Validate?

If you know your NetID and NetID password, you can update your security questions by following these steps:

  1. Navigate to the NU Validate log in page
  2. Enter your NetID and NetID password
  3. Click Record or update answers to your security questions
  4. Answer as many questions as possible (minimum two answers)
  5. Click Save

How do I change my NetID password in NU Validate?

If you previously answered security questions, you may change NetID password by following these steps:

  1. Navigate to the NU Validate log in page
  2. Enter your NetID and current NetID password, click Login
  3. Click Change your NetID password
  4. Enter and repeat your new NetID password
  5. Check I agree to the above conditions
  6. Click Change Password

What if I forget my NetID password or if it expires?

If you previously answered security questions, you may self-reset a forgotten or expired NetID password by following these steps:

  1. Navigate to the NU Validate log in page
  2. Enter your NetID
  3. Click the Forgot Your Password? button
  4. Answer at least two of your security questions

If you have forgotten or let your NetID password expire and have not answered your security questions, you must contact your NetID administrator or present photo identification at the NUIT Support Center on the Evanston campus. More information is available at NetID Password Reset Guidelines.
