Change Request

Change Request is a self-service tool that automates and streamlines procedures involved with ordering NUIT datacenter services. It documents, prioritizes, and tracks the progress of projects by setting milestones and establishing required deliverables. Designated University staff can create service requests via an easy-to-use Web interface and track their projects through completion. Staff can also report and share information associated with service requests.

Who can use Change Request?

Pre-authorized technical support staff can submit requests for datacenter-related services such as new departmental servers, updates to NU enterprise-level systems, and upgrades or patches for server software. Staff can access the system to check the status of their requests, and can close requests once all related tasks have been completed. NUIT Computing Services (ITCS) staff use the system to establish timelines for completion of service requests, to assign various project-related tasks, and to monitor the progress of each request. Please note: Only those staff who have completed Change Request training will be authorized to access the system.

How does Change Request work?

Customers log into the system's Web interface and open an interactive form to create new service requests and/or view a list of open requests they have previously submitted. Drop-down menus allow users to select the appropriate level of urgency for each request; the category of the request (depending on whether a service is being added, changed/upgraded or removed); and other information including the requested date of completion.

When a service request is submitted, Change Request generates a unique reference number for tracking purposes and sends automatic e-mail notification to the NUIT Computing Services (ITCS) group assigned to handle the request.

Customers can log into the system at any time to monitor the status of their requests; workflow can be modified on an as-needed basis. Each step in the project is documented from inception through completion.
