R U @ U?

The letters and symbols prompting students to activate @u.northwestern.edu accounts have been seen in Norris, at the Library, and even on Facebook. And they are working.

Since the June launch of the collaborative student service, almost 7,000 undergraduates have activated @u.northwestern.edu accounts. Additionally, more than 75 percent of the current freshman class is on board.

With new services like group accounts and calendars being added, it’s no surprise that eligible students prefer the collaboration suite of e-mail, calendar, IM, and documents and spreadsheets.

Other features include @u.northwestern.edu group accounts, so you can contact Northwestern group members the same way you contact individual @u.northwestern.edu account holders: via e-mail, instant message, and calendaring.

Group accounts also offer the unique ability to transfer group account ownership while keeping group documents for future access. Group account owners can choose a customized account name and communicate with group members in a listserv-like environment.

In addition, group account owners can post the group’s calendar to the @u.northwestern.edu calendars page.

Interested in activating a group account? The feature is available to officially recognized student groups, University school groups, and University departments who need to communicate information to students who use the @u.northwestern.edu collaboration space. Find out more about activation and special services in the Quick Reference Guide.

Coming soon to @u.northwestern.edu: increased graduate student availability.
