NUIT hosts one-hour Learning Forums for both new and current users of the Blackboard-based Course Management System (CMS). Each session covers a specific topic and is designed for instructors and staff to learn more about using the system and address individual ideas, questions, and concerns.
New Webinar Format for Winter Quarter 2014
Over half of all Learning Forums for the upcoming academic quarter are now hosted online in a flexible webinar format, allowing attendees to join from on or off campus. In-person Learning Forums are also offered on the Evanston campus. There is no cost to attend, however registration is required. On-site sessions may also be requested to accomodate University school and departmental schedules.
Getting Started - Dec. 27, Dec. 30, Jan. 6, and Jan 7
The Getting Started Learning Forum provides an introductory overview of the CMS/Blackboard. Attendees will learn about logging in to the system, course site navigation, adding course documents, sending email and announcements to students, and creating assignments.
Building Your Course Site - Jan. 2, Jan. 8, and Jan. 10
The Building Your Course Site Learning Forum expands upon skills learned in the Getting Started Learning Forum. Attendees will learn how to create a test, upload files, add video, audio, external links, or links to library content and how to reuse a course site in the future.
Student Engagement - Jan. 14, Jan. 17, and Jan. 23
This Learning Forum offers instruction on how to better encourage student collaboration. Attendees will learn how to create discussion boards, groups, blogs, journals, and wikis. Instructors will also learn about integrating Google Apps for Education (Bboogle) in their course.
The Grade Center - Mar. 4 and Mar. 12
Using the Grade Center in Blackboard provides instructors with a more streamlined way to calculate student grades and deliver them to students. Perfect for large lecture classes, TAs can use the Grade Center tool to enter grades.
