Set Up Centrally Hosted E-mail for Android

This page provides set up instructions for setting up your centrally hosted e-mail (Webmail) account using Android.

  1. From the Home Screen, select E-mail.

  2. If this is the first time you are setting up an e-mail account you will see a Welcome screen.

  3. Select Next.
  4. Enter your e-mail address and NetID password.

  5. Select Next.
  6. Select IMAP account.

  7. In the Incoming server settings screen:
    1. Enter your NetID for Username.
    2. Enter your NetID password for Password.
    3. Enter mailhost.it.northwestern.edu for IMAP server.
    4. Enter 993 for Port.
    5. Click the arrow in the Security Type box to reveal a drop down menu.

  8. In the Security Type drop-down menu choose SSL (always).

  9. Select Next. (The device will check connectivity settings for the incoming server).
  10. In the Outgoing server settings screen:
    1. Enter mailhost.it.northwestern.edu as the SMTP server.
    2. Enter 25 for Port.
    3. Enter None for Security type.

    NOTE: This configuration will allow you to send e-mail to Northwestern receipts only. If you would like to configure your device to send to non-Northwestern receipts, you will need to specify a cellular carrier provide SMTP server. See T-Mobile e-mail set up instructions for more details.

  11. Choose the settings in Account options to your own preference.

  12. Choose a name for this e-mail account and enter your first and last name.

  13. Select Done. Your mailbox should appear similar to the image below.
