Set up Centrally Hosted E-mail for iPhone
This page provides set up instructions for setting up your centrally hosted e-mail account using an iPhone or iPod Touch OS V2.0 and higher.
Note: If you use Webmail to acess your centrally hosted e-mail account, make sure e-mail is set to IMAP by going to Options > Account Info> Primary Mailhost Protocol in Webmail and setting it to IMAP.
- Select Settings.
- Select Mail.
- Select Add Account and select Other.
- Enter your name in the Name field.
- Enter your e-mail address in the Address field.
- Select IMAP or POP (for mobile platforms, IMAP is preferred).
- Enter your Incoming Mail Server (example, merle.it.nothwestern.edu) as the Host Name.
- Enter your NetID for User Name.
- Enter your NetID password for Password (you will need to update this information when you update your NetID password).
- Enter mrjim.it.northwestern.edu as your Outgoing Mail Server > Host Name.
- Enter your NetID for User Name.
- Enter your NetID password for Password (you will need to update this information when you update your NetID password).
- Select Save.
It may take a few minutes for the iPhone to process the information and establish a connection. During this time, if you receive the message: "Cannot connect using SSL. Do you want to try setting up the account without SSL?", you may select Yes to establish a connection.
If iPhone cannot establish a connection, go to Settings > Mail. Select the account to edit. Scroll down until you see "Advanced" above the delete account button. Confirm the Server Port is set to 993 for IMAP (995 for POP). Turn Use SSL to ON. You should then be able to establish a connection.
