Set Up @u.northwestern.edu for Windows Mobile

This page provides set up instructions for @u.northwestern.edu e-mail on a Windows Mobile non-touch screen device. Subtle differences in the appearance of the screen may exist depending upon the version of the Windows Mobile device being used.

  1. Enable IMAP in your @u account by going to Settings . Then select the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
  2. Check Enable IMAP, then click Save Changes.
  3. From the Home screen select Start.
  4. Select Messaging.
  5. Select Setup E-mail.
  6. Add account and select Other.
  7. Enter your entire @u.northwestern.edu e-mail address, and your account password (different from your NetID password).
  8. Select Next.
  9. Uncheck “Try to get e-mail settings automatically from the Internet”
  10. Select Next.
  11. Select Internet E-mail.
  12. Select Next.
  13. Enter your full name.
  14. Enter an account display name (e.g. @U E-mail account).
  15. Select Next.
  16. For Incoming Mail Server , enter imap.gmail.com.
  17. Select IMAP4 for account type.
  18. Select Next.
  19. Enter your @u.northwestern.edu e-mail address, and your account password (different from your NetID password).
  20. Select Next.
  21. For Outgoing mail server screen, enter smtp.gmail.com.
  22. Check “Outgoing (server requires authentication)”.
  23. Leave “Use the same name and password for sending e-mail” unchecked.
  24. Select “Advanced Server Settings”.
  25. Check both “Require SSL for Incoming e-mail” and “Require SSL for Outbound e-mail”.
  26. Select Done.
  27. Select Next.
  28. Select the appropriate interval for automatic checking of e-mail.
  29. Select Finish.
