Set Up Virtual Private Network for Windows Mobile
This page provides instructions to set up your Virtual Private Network (VPN) on a Windows Mobile touch screen device. Subtle differences in the appearance of the screen may exist depending upon the version of the Windows Mobile device being used.
- Select Start.
- Select Settings.
- Select the Connections tab.
- Click the Connections icon.
- Select the Add a new VPN server connection link.
- In the Make New Connectionwindow:
1. Type nuvpn into the Name: field.
2. Type vpn-public.vpn.northwestern.edu into the Host name/ IP: field.
3. Select the IPSec/L2TP radio button.
4. Click the Next button. - From the Authenticate IPSec/L2TP connections using: window:
1. Select the A pre-shared key radio button.
2. Typenuit into the field.
3. Click the Next button. - From the next window:
1. Type your NetID into the User name: field.
2. Type your current NetID password into the Password: field.
3. Click the Finish button. - Select the Advanced tab. Note: If you do not see the Advanced tab, it may be covered by the keypad. Click the keyboard icon to remove the keypad.
- Click the Select Networks button.
- From the Network Managment window:
1. Select MY ISP from the Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using: drop down menu.
2. Select MY Work Network from the Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using: drop down menu. - Click the Exceptions… button. Select the Add new URL… link.
- Type *.*/* into the Work URL: field. Note: If you are using wireless at a public access point (or home, etc.), and you do not need secure access to Northwestern resources, you may want to temporarily delete this entry so that you are not prompted to sign into VPN.
- Click OK to close the Exceptions window.
- Click OK to close the Network Management window.
- Click OK to close the Connections window.
- Soft-reset your softphone. Note: Soft-reset procedures vary by phone. Please refer to your phone's user manual for additional information.
