Set Up Wireless for Windows Mobile

This page provides set up instructions for connecting to the Northwestern Wireless Network on a Windows Mobile touch screen device. Subtle differences in the appearance of the screen may exist depending upon the version of the Windows Mobile device being used.

If connectivity issues continue, please try installing the security certificate.

  1. Make sure that wireless is enabled on your phone and verify that your phone can support WPA2-Enterprise encryption. Note: Windows Mobile 6.1 supports WPA2, but not all phones support WPA2. Please consult your phone's manual for further information).

  2. Click Start and select Settings.

  3. Click the Connections tab.

  4. Click Wi-Fi.

  5. Click the wireless network, Northwestern.

  6. Select The Internet from the Connects to: drop-down menu.

  7. Click Next.
  8. Select WPA2 from the Authentication drop-down menu.
  9. Select AES from the Data Encryption drop-down menu.

  10. Select Next.
  11. Select PEAP from the EAP Type drop-down menu.

  12. A Network Log On window should appear. Enter your NetID under "User name". Enter your NetID password under "Password".
  13. Click OK.


Security Certificate

  1. Download the intermediate VeriSign Class 3 Secure Server CA – G2 security certificate. Note: If after installing the intermediate certificate, you receive an error message that the certificate is invalid and cannot connect without a certificate, you may need to download and install the VeriSign root certificate.
  2. Navigate to the folder where you saved the certificate. Right-click the certificate and click Copy.
  3. Open My Computer. With your Windows Mobile device connected to your computer, navigate to a folder of your choosing on your device (i.e. My Documents).

    Note: The process of syncing a file to your Windows Mobile device may vary from phone to phone. You may sync via a USB cable, Bluetooth connection, or using software such as Windows Mobile Device Center.

  4. Right-click and paste the certificate into the folder.

  5. From the Windows Mobile device: open File Explorer from Start > File Explorer or Start > Programs > File Explorer .
  6. Navigate to the folder where you saved the certificate in Step 3 (i.e. My Documents).

  7. Double-tap the certificate.
