NUIT SMaRT Series
The NUIT Scholarly Minds and Research Technologies (SMaRT) Series are workshops and presentations specifically designed for faculty, staff, and graduate students on the University's Chicago campus. These workshops offer education about new technology and technology-related issues that impact the academic and research environment of the University.
SMaRT Series events are hosted by Faculty Support Services, a department within NUIT Academic & Research Technologies (A&RT).

Using Google for Academic Research - October 20
John Hernandez, Coordinator for Social Sciences, NUL, will demonstrate techniques using Google's advanced search features to help you zero in on scholarly materials via the Web. He will also cover Google's specialized tools, including Google Scholar and Google Book Search, and discuss ways to use these in concert with other traditional library tools to make the most of your search.
For the last decade, John has been a reference and instruction librarian specializing in political science, public policy, public administration, and government information resources. He has taught many classes on finding government information, database searching, Web searching, and using the Web for academic research.

Using Media to Support Research and Teaching - November 3
Media Space is NUIT's system for the management and publishing of audio and video media for the Northwestern University community. It is available for Faculty and staff in support of teaching, research, and other communication activities. Media Space may be used to publish audio and video content to the University's Blackboard-based Course Management System (CMS), to institutional areas of iTunes U and YouTube, or to the open World Wide Web.

Clickers in the Classroom - November 17
William White, Professor, McC Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences will present an overview of using Student Response Systems (SRS/clickers). Designed for new and existing SRS users Bill will share details of how he uses clickers with his students for interactive learning.
Uses such as instructor and guest feedback, setting course priorities, interactive workshops and even quizzes will be demonstrated. Learn how to enhance the student's educational experience while making life easier for you and your teaching assistants.
