NU Users MUST Reconfigure E-mail For Stronger Password Technology

IMPORTANT NOTICE: If you have not already done so, Northwestern users must upgrade to the new e-mail password technology by January 11, 2005. Failure to do so will result in your e-mail not working and possible lost data after this date.

In order to keep NetID passwords more secure, NUIT is phasing out its existing password technology on NU's central e-mail servers (casbah, hecky, lulu, and merle) in favor of newer technology (SSL).

Please upgrade or reconfigure your e-mail software as soon as possible using the following instructions.

  • Eudora Users: Find instructions at NUIT's Configuring Eudora for SSL Web page.
Note: For SSL to run correctly, you need Eudora 5.2 or above on Windows 2000/XP, or Eudora 6.0 on Macintosh OS 10.2 or above.

Note to WebMail Users: If you use WebMail for ALL your e-mail, no changes are needed.

After January 11, 2005, users who have not reconfigured their e-mail will be unable to access their Northwestern e-mail accounts. For more information, see NUIT's support document SSL implemented on main e-mail servers.

If you have questions, please contact your local technical support person, call the NUIT Support Center at 847-491-HELP (4357), or e-mail consultant@northwestern.edu.
