Why network extensions are a bad idea

If you've considered adding a network extension to your office, you should know about some of the potentially serious problems it could cause. Having multiple users on a single network extension increases vulnerability to viruses and other network threats, any of which could easily spread to others in your school or department or across the University.

For this and other reasons, extensions of the NU Network, including wired and wireless routers and switches, are not permitted. Other devices that include routing or switching capabilities are also not permitted, such as non-NUIT provided voice services hardware extensions.
