NetID expiration process can be accelerated

Your NetID is your electronic identity at Northwestern-the key to such essentials as NU Network access, e-mail, and the online directory, to name a few. When you leave the University and are no longer in the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) database, your NetID expires along a planned timeline.

However, there are a number of questions to consider before a NetID is deactivated, such as:

  • What about access to University systems such as HRIS, CUFS, the Travel System, or Corporate Express that is not automatically removed when the NetID expires?
  • What if a staff member who leaves Northwestern is also a student at the University and wants to keep their NetID active?
  • What if the person leaving the University needs his or her non-business-related e-mail forwarded?

If a department or school wants to accelerate the NetID expiration process, they can send a request to email-accounts@northwestern.edu from a dean, director or department chairperson, an HR staff consultant, or a direct manager. If the individual whose NetID expired returns to the University in any capacity, the dean, director, department head or HR staff consultant can reactivate the NetID by contacting email-accounts@northwestern.edu.
