Update Your RealPlayer to Watch the MLK Webcast
For popular campus events, such as Dr. Martin Luther King Day and President Henry Bienen's State of the University Address, NUIT often offers you the option of being an audience member without leaving your office. Just log on to a Northwestern Webcast.
For improved video quality and increased security, NUIT is no longer supporting or distributing the Northwestern specific RealOne Enterprise Desktop player to watch Webcasts. Instead, users are strongly encouraged to install the latest RealPlayer 10.5, a free download from Real Networks. Other players, such as QuickTime or Microsoft's Media Player won't work for Northwestern Webcasts.
In order to watch the MLK Webcast on January 17 (and future Northwestern Webcasts), please:
- Download and configure the latest RealPlayer 10.5.
To help with installation and configuration of RealPlayer, NUIT has created a new "Setting Up RealPlayer" section on its Webcasting Web site. User-friendly instructions are available to walk you through the entire updating process, from uninstalling old versions of RealPlayer to configuring your new software to avoid pop-up advertisements. Note: To avoid problems, please be sure that previous versions of RealPlayer are uninstalled before upgrading.
- Test your newly installed RealPlayer. A "test" link can be found on NUIT's Webcasting pages and will ensure that there are no problems with your RealPlayer setup for Northwestern Webcasts.
- Ensure that you are connected from a high-speed Internet connection location.
- Tune into the MLK Webcast page on Monday, January 17 at 11:00 a.m.
For more information regarding the MLK Webcast, please visit the MLK Celebration Web site. A live Webcast will also be show through NUTV on NU Channel 1 for on campus users. Visit NUTV to watch.
Once you've set up your RealPlayer to watch the MLK event, you will be ready for future Northwestern Webcasts as well. And if you miss a Webcast, visit NUIT's Webcasting Web site to view archived material.
For more information about NUIT's Webcasting services, or if you would like to Webcast an event, visit NUIT's Webcasting Web site or e-mail webcasting@northwestern.edu.

Webcasts stream video and audio content across the NU Network directly to your computer. They are a popular way for members of the University community to virtually "attend" lectures, events, and discussions when geography presents a challenge.
To watch an NU Webcast, you must have the latest RealPlayer 10.5 installed.
