Internet Service While Traveling

Effective December 21, 2007, Northwestern's service partner has discontinued this service without notice. Please consult What's New and Changing for details on other forms of connectivity.

NUIT apologizes for any inconveniences this might cause.

NUIT has compiled a broad overview of Internet services available for NU faculty and staff traveling on business. Services can be charged to the University via P-card, expense report, or hotel bill.

Increasingly, hotels, airports, libraries, and coffee shops offer free or low cost Internet connectivity. Other options include:

  • The purchase of a wireless card from a cellular telephone carrier that easily connects your laptop computer with the Internet:
  • The use of free Wi-Fi hotspots or dial up telephone numbers that are provided by your home DSL provider. Check your provider's Web site for more information about this service:
  • Signing up for an individual service plan from another iPassConnect reseller. For a list of possible resellers go to http://www.ipass.com/partners/partners_resellerlocator.html .

  • Sign up for an international service provider on an as-needed basis. Below are two suggestions, though you may wish to locate your own service provider:
  • The purchase of wireless hotspot services:

This list should not be considered exhaustive as many services are readily available. Consider your needs and resources before making a long-term committment to one particular service.
