Set Up Cisco VPN for Windows

Importing Configurations

The VPN client is configured automatically by the custom installer. However, if you need to import our configuration, follow these instructions:

1. Download the nuvpnpcf.zip file from the following location: ftp://nuns.it.northwestern.edu/pub/core_software/vpn/nuvpnpcf.zip
2. Extract the nuvpn.pcf file from the nuvpnpcf.zip file.
3. Select Start => Cisco Systems VPN Client => VPN Client. A window similar to the following will appear:

4. Click Import. A window similar to the following will appear:

5. Navigate to where the nuvpn.pcf file is located.
6. Select the nuvpn.pcf file, then select Open. A window similar to the following will appear:

7. Click OK.

Network Address Translation (NAT) Configuration for Windows

By default, Network Address Translation (NAT) transparency is turned on. If you use a NAT device (i.e. firewall, personal network snapway, Internet Connection Sharing device) and NAT transparency is turned off, you may need to turn NAT transparency on. One way to tell if you are behind a NAT device is to see if your computer's IP address is 10.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x.

To turn on NAT transparency:

1. Select Start => Cisco Systems VPN Client => VPN Client. A window similar to the following will appear:

2. Select the nuvpn connection entry, then click Modify. A window similar to the following will appear:

3. Select the Transport tab. A window similar to the following will appear:

   1. Select the Enable Transport Tunneling check box.
   2. Select the IPSec over UDP (NAT/PAT) radio button.
   3. Check the Alow Local LAN Access checkbox.
4. Click Save.
