Set Up Wireless for Windows (nuwlan)

On your desktop, right-click My Network Places, then select Properties.
Note: If you are running Windows XP and do not see My Network Places on your desktop, you need to make the icon visible. See Making My Network Places appear on your Desktop for instructions.

Right-click Wireless Network Connection, then select
Properties. A window similar to the following will appear:

- Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), then click the Properties button. A window similar to the following will appear:

- Click the Obtain an IP address automatically radio button.
- Click the Obtain DNS server address automatically radio button.
- Click OK to close the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window.

Select the Wireless Networks tab. A window similar to the following will appear:

Click the Add… button. A window similar to the following will appear:

- Type nuwlan into the Network name (SSID): field.
- Select Disabled from the Data encryption: drop-down menu.
- Click OK to save your changes.

Click the Advanced button. A window similar to the following will appear:

- Select the Access point (infrastructure) networks only radio button.
- Un-Check the Automatically connect to non-preferred networks checkbox if it is checked.
- Click the Close button to save your changes.

- Click the OK button to save your changes.

Right-click Wireless Network Connection, then select
View Available Wireless Networks. A window similar to the following will appear:

To connect to the wireless network, click the Connect button. If you are successful, a window similar to the following will appear:

- After you have connected to Northwestern's wireless LAN, you must authenticate using Virtual Private Networking (VPN). See Configuring VPN (Win) for instructions on using VPN.
