Set Up Wireless for Windows Vista
Some laptops either do not support WPA2, require that you update the drivers for your wireless card, or require an add-on card or adapter. Contact your vendor to determine your computer's wireless compatibility with 802.1X/WPA2.
Windows Vista Wireless Set Up
- Open the Network and Sharing Center by going to Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center.
- Select Set up a connection or network on the left hand side of the window.

- Select Manually connect to a wireless network.

- Click Next.
- Enter the following information:
a. Network name: Northwestern
b. Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
c. Encryption type: AES
d.Security Key/Passphrase: Leave blank
e. Check Start this connection automatically
f. Un-check Connect even when not Broadcasting.
- Click Next.
- Select Use the existing network.

- You will now see the available wireless networks. Right click on Northwestern and select Properties.

- Select the Connection tab. Verify:
a. Name: Northwestern
b. SSID: Northwestern
c. Network Type: Access point
d. Network Availability: All users
e. Check: Connect automatically when this network is in range
f. Check: Connect to a more preferred network if available
g. Un-check: Connect even if the network is not broadcasting
- Select the Security tab. Under Choose Network Authentication Method, select: Protected EAP (PEAP). Click Settings.

- From the Protected EAP Properties window:
a. Check Validate Server Certificate
b. Un-check Connect to these Servers
c. Select Authentication Method: Secured Password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)
d. Click Configure.
- Un-check Automatically use my Windows Logon name and password (and domain if any).

- Click OK.

Right-click Wireless Network Connection, then select View Available Wireless Networks. A window similar to the following will appear:

To connect to the Northwestern wireless network, highlight Northwestern, then click the Connect button.
Note: If this is the first time that you connect, a notice similar to the following will appear in your system tray:

Click on the icon in the system tray. A window similar to the following will appear:
- Type your NetID into the User name: field.
- Type your NetID password into the Password: field.
- Leave the Logon domain: field blank.

Click OK.

A window similar to the following will appear:

You need to verify that the certificate is valid before you continue. Click the View Server Certificate button to show the details of the certificate. A window similar to the following will appear:

If the Issued by: and Valid from match the above screen, click OK. Note: Issued to may contain syntax "netauth1" or "netauth2". A window similar to the following will appear:

Click OK to save your changes.

You need to verify that the certificate is valid before you continue. Click the View Server Certificate button to show the details of the certificate. A window similar to the following will appear:

If you are successful, a window similar to the following will appear:
