Preferences in EDS
Users can modify the following aspects of the E-mail Defense System (EDS):
EDS junk mail filtering - Opt-out/in
- Edit your NetID online directory information.
- Select the "View/Edit Your Information" button.
- Scroll down to the filter_junk_e-mail directory field. Select "Modify" to edit your directory information for this field.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to opt-out of junk e-mail filtering.
NOTE: If you forward your mail to a non-Northwestern affiliated e-mail address, you will need to replace the existing mailbox listed on the Online Directory with an external e-mail address.
- Log in to EDS.
- Review your quarantined e-mail, verify your "Approved Sender" list and log out of EDS.
- Modify the "mailbox" field in the NetID online directory information by replacing the University's central mailbox address (@casbah, @hecky, @lulu, or @merle) with an external e-mail address.
EDS Quarantine Digest - Opt-in
- Go to the Options page in the EDS Web site.
- Under Mail Filtering Preferences, check "E-mail me the EDS Quarantine Digest, a daily notification of junk e-mail blocked by EDS."
- Click Save.
EDS Quarantine Digest - Opt-out
- Go to the Options page in the EDS Web site.
- Under Mail Filtering Preferences, check "E-mail me the EDS Quarantine Digest, a daily notification of junk e-mail blocked by EDS."
- Click Save.
- Under Mail Filtering Preferences, uncheck "E-mail me the EDS Quarantine Digest, a daily notification of junk e-mail blocked by EDS."
- Click Save again.
Hold Messages
Use the Hold Messages option to keep messages for longer than the set number of days (for example, during a vacation). This option allows you to specify a hold date using day, month, and year drop-down lists.
- On the left navigation menu, click Options. The Options page is displayed.
- Under Hold Messages, use the drop-down lists to select the date after which the messages will be held for 7 days.
- Click Save.
