Tips to Reduce Junk E-mail in Outlook

Outlook 2000/XP (Windows)

Create a Message Rule (Mail Filter):

  1. Highlight the message you want to create a rule from.
  2. Right-click on the message and select Create Rule… from the contextual menu.
  3. Check the conditions you want to check for, then click Next.
  4. Check the actions you want the rule to create for messages, then click Next.
  5. Check any exceptions to the rule (if there are any), then click Next.
  6. Type a name for the rule into the Please specify a name for this rule: field.
  7. If you do not want this rule to run automatically, un-check the Turn on this rule checkbox.
  8. Click Finish.

Outlook 6 (Windows)

Create a Message Rule (Mail Filter):

  1. Select Tools => Message Rules => Mail….
  2. Click New….
  3. Check the conditions you want to check for in the top field, then press <Tab>.
  4. Check the actions you want the rule to create for messages in the middle field.
  5. Type a name for the rule into the 4. Name of the rule: field.
  6. Click OK.

Outlook 5.0.5 (Macintosh)

Create a Message Rule (Mail Filter):

  1. Select Tools => Rules.
  2. Click New….
  3. Type a name for the rule into the Rule name: field.
  4. Select the conditions you want to check for in the top field.
  5. Select the actions you want the rule to create for messages in the middle field.
  6. Click OK.
