Install Spybot - Search & Destroy

To diagnose and remove spyware, NUIT recommends Spybot - Search & Destroy, a free download.

  1. Download the Spybot - Search & Destroy application installer. Note: Depending on your Web browser setup, you may be asked to run the installer directly from a Web site. If you are prompted, click Run.
  2. If you downloaded the installer to your computer, locate it on your Desktop (or whichever folder you downloaded to). The installer should be called spybotsd13.exe by default.
  3. Double-click the Spybot - Search & Destroy installer to begin the installation process.
  4. A window similar to the following will appear:
    Spybot installation welcome screen.
  5. Click Next. A window similar to the following will appear:
    License Agreement window. Select I accept the agreement, then hit Next.
  6. Read the Spybot - Search & Destroy license agreement.
  7. Click the I accept the agreement radio button, then click Next. A window similar to the following will appear:
    Select destination window. Using the Browse menu, select the location to install Spybot.
  8. Choose where you would like to install Spybot - Search & Destroy.
  9. Click Next. A window similar to the following will appear:
    Select components window. Click Next without changing any of the options.
  10. Click Next. A window similar to the following will appear:
    Start Menu folder window. Click Next.
  11. Click Next. A window similar to the following will appear:
    Additional tasks window. Click Next.
  12. Click Next. A window similar to the following will appear:
    Spybot Ready to Install window. Select Install.
  13. Click Install. A window similar to the following will appear:
    Installation of Spybot finished window.
  14. Click Finish. You have successfully installed Spybot - Search & Destroy.
  15. Please proceed to the instructions for Running Spybot - Search & Destroy.
