EndNote Quick Reference
Which versions of EndNote does Northwestern University support?
EndNote X3 for Mac and X3 for Windows are fully supported by the University.
I'm using an earlier version of EndNote. What should I be aware of before upgrading?
Before you begin installation, it is important to back up your EndNote libraries (including corresponding .DATA folders), custom styles, import filters, connection files, and spell check dictionaries, as well as any Word documents that use Cite While You Write; close all open programs, and then uninstall any older versions. EndNote X3 libraries are not backwards compatible with EndNote 7 or lower. When opening a library from EndNote 5, 6, or 7, EndNote X2 will convert the library to the current format and leave the original library unchanged.
Does Northwestern offer a customized EndNote template?
The NU Toolkit for EndNote is included in this installation package, and we recommend that you add it. The Toolkit contains customized connection for use with NU Library databases.
Can I continue to use EndNote if I leave Northwestern?
Yes, you can continue to use the software.
Whom can I contact with EndNote licensing questions?
Please send inquiries to NUIT Site-licensed Software.
What installation methods are available?
Only a download is available. CDs are not available for loan or purchase.
Where can I find more information on installing and using EndNote?
More information can be found on the EndNote Web site.
Is EndNote X3 compatible with Microsoft Word 2008?
Yes, as long as the version of Microsoft Word 2008 has been upgraded to version 12.2 or higher.
