Microsoft Office 2008 For MAC: Known Issues

The following compatibility issues related to the use of Office 2008 for Mac have been identified.  While NUIT is continually working to identify the most up to date compatibility issues, users may want to contact specific vendors to determine compatibility prior to purchasing Office 2008 for Mac.  Please direct any questions to NUIT's Site-licensed Software Support .

    • EndNote X and EndNote XI - No current versions of EndNote are compatible with Word 2008 for Mac. Compatibility solutions are available until a new version of EndNote is released.
    • Office 2008 for Mac deletes your prior installation of Office 2004 for Mac.
    • Excel 2008 for Mac does not support Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). VBA is the language used to create and record macros in prior versions of Excel. Worksheets received from Office 2007 Windows users may not function on Office 2008 for Mac.  Some objects cannot be edited.  In addition, some objects night not display correctly. Compatibility solutions are available.
    • Word 2008 for Mac has a new file format, creating compatibility issues with shared documents.  Crashes have been reported.

    NUIT Recommendations

    NUIT will support Office 2008 for Mac on a best efforts basis. Users may want to contact specific vendors to determine compatibility prior to purchasing Office 2008 for Mac.
