Office 2007's new file format prevents users from sharing files across platforms. Vendor support: Microsoft is working on a file format converter for Office 2004 for Mac, with public beta versions anticipated in the spring of 2007 and final versions expected to ship six to eight weeks after Office 2008 for Mac is available. File-format converters for earlier versions of Office for Mac will be assessed following the release of the beta converters. |

Office 2007's new file format prevents users of the previous versions of Office from being able to open Office 2007 files. Vendor support: Microsoft has released the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack, which will allow you to open, edit, save, and create files using the Open XML formats new to Office 2007. Because some features of Office 2007 are not supported in previous versions, users might lose data when opening a converted file in a previous Office application.
