Scheduling a Virus Scan for Macintosh

Step-by-step instructions on how to schedule a virus scan using Symantec AntiVirus for Macintosh.

  1. Launch Norton AntiVirus. A window similar to the following will appear:

  2. Select Utilities > Norton Scheduler. A window similar to the following will appear:

  3. Click New…. A message similar to the following will appear:

  4. Click AntiVirus Scan. A window similar to the following will appear:

    1. Type a description for your scan into the Enter a name for the task: field.
    2. Select Daily from the Set a Frequency drop down menu.
    3. Select a time of the day when you want to perform the scan under the Set the time: section.

      Note: Try to select a time when you are not using your computer (such as lunch time), otherwise you may notice that your computer is slow when scans are being run.

  5. Click Browse…. A window similar to the following will appear:

  6. Navigate to the drive you want to scan, then click the Select button. A window similar to the following will appear:

  7. Click Save.
