Installing Symantec Endpoint Protection for Windows

Step-by-step instructions on how to install Symantec Endpoint Protection for Windows. 

Before you run the installer, make sure you exit out of all currently running applications.

Please Note — If you already have an antivirus program on your computer, it can cause conflicts when you install another program. You must uninstall the current antivirus software, even if it is Symantec or Norton, before you download this version of Symantec Endpoint Protection.

If you have a Symantec or Norton product, you can download and run the following program to remove prior to installing the current Symantec product.
Download NONAV.zip

  1. Extract SEPv11.zip.
  2. From the extracted location Double-Click Setup.exe.
  3. Once you have launched the installer, a window similar to the following will appear:

  4. Click Next. A window similar to the following will appear:

    1. Click the I accept the terms in the license agreement radio button.
    2. Click Next.

  5. A window similar to the following will appear:

      1. Select the Unmanaged Client Install radio button.
      2. Click Next.

  6. A window similar to the following will appear:

      1. Select the Typical radio button.
      2. Click Next.
  7. Click Next. A window similar to the following will appear:

  8. Click Install. A window similar to the following will appear after the install is completed:

    Note:
    If you are running a version of Windows that requires a reboot, a window similar to the following will appear:

  9. Click Next. A window similar to the following will appear:

  10. Select Wait 60 Minutes. A window similar to the following will appear:

    1. Click Finish.

Note: If you are not currently connected to the Internet you will need to manually update your virus definitions. See Running LiveUpdate Manually (Windows) for more information.

If your operating system requires a reboot, your computer will reboot automatically. Symantec Endpoint Protection will be completely installed after the reboot. The Symantec shield icon will appear on the task bar in the bottom right corner of your screen.

If your operating system does not require a reboot, you will know the installation was successful when you see the yellow Symantec shield icon appear on the task bar at the bottom right corner of your screen.
