Windows Vista: Known Issues

NUIT has identified the following issues related to compatibility between NUIT supported software and Microsoft Windows Vista. While NUIT is continually working to identify the most up to date compatibility issues, you may need to contact specific vendors before a Vista upgrade. Please direct any questions to NUIT's Site-licensed Software Support.

Is incompatible with Vista, not recommended for installation.

After Effects
Version: 7.0

Installs and runs with minimal known issues (may encounter display issues if you run After Effects 7.x with Aero {Desktop Composition} turned on. Disabling Aero fixes the issue).

Vendor support: Not officially supported.

ColdFusion
Version: MX 7.0

Unknown. Adobe Forums indicate that ColdFusion may have problems connecting to IIS (Internet Information Services).

Vendor support: Unknown.

Installs and runs with minimal known issues.

Vendor support: Not officially supported.

Creative Suite
Version: 2.3

Installs and runs on Vista with some known issues. Microsoft's Compatibility Update may further improve Vista support.

Vendor support: Not officially supported, no patches for Vista support expected. The new Creative Suite 3 version fully supports Vista.

Dreamweaver
Version: 8

Installs and runs on Vista with minimal known issues. From Adobe Web Forum: May have problems installing updates.

Vendor support: Not officially supported. The CS3 version fully supports Vista.

Fireworks
Version: 8

Installs and runs with minimal known issues.

Vendor support: Not officially supported. The CS3 version fully supports Vista.

Flash Professional
Version: 8

Installs and runs with minimal known issues.

Vendor support: Not officially supported. The CS3 version fully supports Vista.

Illustrator
Version: 12 (CS2)

Installs and runs with minimal known issues.

Vendor support: Not officially supported. The CS3 version fully supports Vista.

InDesign
Version: 4 (CS2)

Installs and runs with minimal known issues (may be some GUI issues); Adobe Forums indicate that it should work fine under compatibility mode. Please visit Adobe Forums for details.

Vendor support: Not officially supported. The CS3 version fully supports Vista.

PageMaker
Version: 7.0

Does not install on Vista. Adobe currently has no plans to update this product for Vista.

Vendor support: Unsupported.

Photoshop
Version: 9.0 (CS2)

Installs and runs with minimal known issues. May prompt repeatedly to register software. Non-publisher websites suggest using Vista's new “Run as Administrator” feature to resolve registration issues. May have some GUI issues.

Vendor support: Not officially supported. The CS3 version fully supports Vista.

Reader
Version: 8

Installs and runs on Vista after applying version 8.1 update. Please see Adobe's site for details.

Remedy
Version: 6.3

Non-publisher groups indicate that installing Remedy under compatibility mode should allow it to install and run normally.

Cisco VPN

Testing indicates current Cisco VPN client is compatible with Vista.

Does not install on Vista.

Installs if running the Maple installer in compatible mode (winxp sp2) or switching from Windows Vista Basic (or Aero) to Classic. Please visit the Maple site for details.

Installs, but there are known issues. Please review Mozilla's site for details.

MeetingMaker

Does not install on Vista.

SAS
Version: 9.1.3

Some modules may install and run on Vista by following procedures provided by SAS. See SAS Support for details.

SPSS
Version: 15.0.1

Installs on Vista and runs (with known issues) after applying a compatability patch from SPSS. Please see the SPSS Web site for details and a download link (login required; use guest as username and password).

Symantec Antivirus
Version: 10.1.5

Non-publisher websites state that this version is not compatible with Vista.

Vendor support: Symantec has released Symantec 10.2 for Vista (will not work on pre-release versions of Vista).

Ghost Solution Suite
Version: 2.0

Ghost Solution Suite 2.0 is compatible with Windows Vista.

Vendor support: Supported.

Client Security
Version: 3.5.1

Client Security cannot be installed on Windows Vista.

Vendor support: A new release is planned for the first half of 2007, offering support for Vista.

EndNote
Version: X

Installs, but there are known issues. Please visit the EndNote site for details. Untested with NU Toolkit.

Vendor support: Supported.

Absolute FTP
Version: 2.2.8

Installs and runs on Vista, however product is discontinued and support has ended as of May 11, 2007.

Mathematica

Installs and runs on Vista.

Blackboard Course Management System

Is incompatible with Vista.
