Cellular Telephone Services
Cellular coverage at Northwestern is provided by local cell towers in Evanston and Chicago . NUIT has partnered with the Division of Student Affairs to improve cellular coverage with the implementation of a Distributed Antennae System in the following Evanston campus buildings and residence halls:
• 600/610 Lincoln (Hinman House)
• Kemper Hall
• Slivka Hall
• Bobb/McCulloch
• East Fairchild
• West Fairchild
• 620/630 Lincoln
• Jacobs Center
• Allen Center
Cellular services for buildings are provided by the following vendors:
• AT&T
• Sprint/Nextel
• T-Mobile
• U.S. Cellular
• Verizon
Note: Though the Distributed Antennae System provides improved service, call quality may vary based on individual cellular provider and is not controlled or managed by NUIT. NUIT neither endorses nor recommends any cellular phone vendor or service.
Identifying and Ordering a Cell Phone
NUIT recommends that you become an informed buyer before identifying a cellular provider and phone. Clarify how you plan to use your phone, then narrow your list of potential devices based on your needs. Perhaps your needs require you to use a Smartphone, like the BlackBerry. Once you've identified your needs and researched your top picks, contact your local retail outlet and begin communicating your needs. Be sure to ask if any special trial periods are available. Faculty and staff can contact their departmental supervisor for ordering details.
Consult the Cell Phone Quick Reference for answers to frequently asked questions about cell phones on campus.
