Converged Communications Services - Billing
Northwestern's five-year program to implement converged communications services began in FY2006. These "bundled" services will be delivered by Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)-enabled technology and will include: voice services, including local calling, and long-distance calling; data and video services; and messaging services such as voice mail, e-mail, and secure Instant Messaging (IM). Converged communications services will be provided by NUIT.
As the University invests in SIP-enabled technology to replace legacy and end-of-life telecommunications infrastructure, a new method of charging for telecommunications services has been implemented to provide more efficient customer service to the NU community.
Effective September 1, 2005, costs for telecommunications services have changed to reflect the cost of delivering "bundled" services, or Core Services.
Billing
The new method of charging schools and departments for Core Services combines individual costs into a once-a-year charge. Non-Core Services are charged on a one-time or monthly basis. Billing and reporting functions are handled through the CONDUITS Online system.
- Core Services — Services required to be a functioning member of the University community, including basic on-campus services
