Can I sync my iPhone with MeetingMaker?

NUIT offers the NotifyLink service. This is a syncronization product that interfaces with Meeting Maker to connect iPhone directly to Meeting Maker calendar.

The initial set up on the device is conducted through the NotifyLink Web console.

How do I connect my iPhone to the wireless network?

Currently, the iPhone is not compatible with the "Northwestern" SSID. For now, iPhone users will need to connect to "nuwlan" through VPN. Follow these instructions to connect:

The iPhone 2.0 Software Update provides support for the "Northwestern" SSID. Follow these instructions to connect:

  1. If prompted to join the Northwestern SSID
    1. For Username, enter your NetID
    2. For Password, enter your NetID password.
    3. Click Join
    4. Click Accept when prompted to trust the netauth2.northwestern.edu certificate.

  2. Otherwise
    1. Select Settings
    2. Select WiFi
    3. Select Northwestern
    4. Type in nuwlan
    5. And then follow steps 1-4

How do I connect my iPhone to VPN?

  1. Select Settings
  2. Select General
  3. Select Network
  4. Select VPN
  5. Click Add VPN Configuration
  6. Click IPSec
  7. Enter Northwestern for Description
  8. Enter vpn-public.vpn.northwestern.edu for Server
  9. Enter your NetID for Account
  10. Enter your NetID password for Password
  11. Enter NUIT for Group Name (case sensitive)
  12. Enter nuit for Secret (case sensitive)
  13. Click Save

How do I set up my iPhone for e-mail?

  1. Select Settings
  2. Select Mail
  3. Select Add Account
  4. Select POP or IMAP

    Note: If you are not sure whether to select POP or IMAP, please see POP vs. IMAP for more information.

  5. Enter your name in the Name field
  6. Enter your e-mail address in the Address field
  7. Enter a Description to act as a nickname for this e-mail account
  8. Merle, Casbah, Hecky and Lulu users:
    1. Enter your incoming server (example, merle.it.northwestern.edu)
    2. Enter your NetID for your user name
    3. Enter your NetID password for password
      1. Note: You will need to update this information when you update your NetID password.
    4. Enter your outgoing mail server (example, merle.it.northwestern.edu)

      Note: If you enter your casbah, hecky, lulu, or merle server as the outgoing mail server, you will have to connect via VPN to send. You may also enter Cingular's smtp server cwmx.com to streamline the connection process.

  9. @u.northwestern.edu users:
    1. Incoming mail server
      1. For POP, enter pop.gmail.com
      2. For IMAP, enter imap.gmail.com
    2. Enter your e-mail address (example, student-alias@u.northwestern.edu for your user name)
    3. Enter @u.northwestern.edu password (not your NetID password)
    4. Enter smtp.gmail.com for your outgoing mail server (SMTP).
    5. Re-enter your e-mail address for your user name
      Re-enter your password (not your NetID password)
  10. Select Save
  11. Note: Upon pushing the Save button, the iPhone will process the information and attempt to establish a connection. This may take a few minutes. You may receive a message that reads "Cannot connect using SSL. Do you want to try setting up the account with out SSL?" You may select Yes to attempt to establish a connection.
