Mathematica 6.0 Software Upgrade Now Available

Mathematica 6.0, the newest version of the popular mathematics software program, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems.

Faculty, staff, and student license holders of Mathematica FY07 can upgrade to the latest version free of charge before licenses expire on August 31, 2007.

To obtain the free upgrade, faculty and staff license holders can e-mail their NetID and prior proof of purchase or order number to questions@software.northwestern.edu.

Student license holders can upgrade for Windows and Mac operating systems though the e-academy Web site.

Faculty, staff, and students interested in purchasing a new license for Mathematica can do so via the software section of the NUIT Web site. Please note that new FY07 licenses expire August 31, 2007.

Mathematica 6.0 provides significant enhancements to the software. Some of the features of this new version include:

  • High-Impact Adaptive Visualization — Automated creation of high-fidelity function and data graphics
  • Language for Data Integration — Automatic integration of hundreds of standard data formats
  • Load-on-Demand Curated Data— Major collections of data in mathematics, physics, chemistry, astronomy, geography, linguistics and finance
  • Symbolic Interface Construction— Immediate creation of arbitrary interfaces from simple programs
  • Automated Computational Aesthetics— Innovative algorithmic optimization of visual presentation
  • Unification of Graphics, Text & Controls — Ultimate integration of active graphics and controls into flowing text and input
  • Support for the latest Windows and Macintosh platforms — Fully compatible with Windows Vista PCs and Intel Macs
