NUIT Launches New Identity Management System

Modified Date: 17 July 2008

Effective Date: 20 May 2008

Update: The launch of NU Validate has been postponed and will not launch on July 28, 2008 as previously announced. A new launch plan will be announced in early September 2008.

As part of its continuing effort to provide a secure network, Northwestern will launch a new identity management system which is responsible for validating all NetIDs and passwords before granting University members access to the NU network.

The new system, known as NU Validate, will replace SNAP, NU's internally developed identity management system and take over NetID management services, such as "NetID Creation" and "Change Your NetID Password". Powered by Sun Microsystems, NU Validate incorporates new industry-standard security measures and paves the way for future development.

NUIT will work closely with NetID administrators to facilitate a smooth transition. More information about the NU Validate launch will be available in the coming weeks.

Impact on End User

New security standards will require users to change their NetID password and answer a security question before being granted access to NU Validate services, such as "Edit Your NU Online Directory".

After NU Validate is launched, users will also notice a new look and feel to some Web pages. NU Validate Web pages will have the same information and services as SNAP Web pages, but with a new layout and updated content.
