NUIT Launches Updated Web Site

Posted Date: 31 Jul 2008

Effective Date: 31 Jul 2008

The Northwestern University Information Technology (NUIT) new and improved Web site was launched on July 31, 2008. The main objectives of the project are to improve access to important information and to provide a design re-fresh. These goals have been accomplished by incorporating accessibility tools, such as text-to-speech readers, and presenting an updated design with intuitive navigation and rotating images.

Some of the more important changes implemented include:

  • Quick Links, located on the top right side of the screen, contains quick access to Meeting Maker Online, Set Vacation Message, WebMail, and Purchasing Resources

  • Top Navigation hosts dynamic drop down lists that include academic and research resources as well as NUIT services

  • Left Navigation offers support resources including Live Chat Support

  • Resources for Faculty, Staff, Students, and Researchers are more visible to improve access to audience-specific information

  • NUIT News and NUIT Calendar are prominently displayed on the home page

Impact on End User

Although the look and feel of the Web site has been visually enhanced, much of the same information is still available. Once users become accustomed to the new design and the placement of some information, they will experience the intuitive navigation, updated images, and easy access to vital information.

Bookmarks that users have in their Web browsers will continue to function as they did prior to the Web design re-fresh.
