Northwestern Offers New Videoconferencing Service

Northwestern now offers Blue Jeans, a new, cloud-based videoconferencing service that supports high-resolution videoconferencing, high-resolution content sharing, and real time video sharing.

All University students, faculty, and staff with a valid NetID may log in to Blue Jeans and begin using the service for academic or administrative activities.

During 2015-2016 year NUIT will survey Blue Jeans account holders in order to understand the value this service has brought to the University community's video collaboration activities.

In addition to videoconferencing, the service has audio conferencing, content sharing, and Webinar capabilities.  Some additional features and benefits are listed below.

End User Impact

Faculty, staff, and students are eligible to log in and begin using Blue Jeans to schedule, host, or moderate a Blue Jeans meeting at no cost. First time users will need to download the BlueJeans plug-in when using a computer. Mobile users will need to download the Blue Jeans app from Google Play or the App Store.

Accounts are automatically provisioned. Instructions for how to schedule a meeting and how to attend a meeting are available in the IT Knowledge Base.

Canvas Instructors can conduct audio, video, and content sharing conferencing right within their Canvas courses. When accessing Blue Jeans in Canvas for the first time, “Authenticate” and then “Authorize” its use when prompted. An account will be automatically created for first time users. Instructions for using Blue Jeans in Canvas and how-to videos are available in the Canvas Learning Center.

Important: Blue Jeans does not comply with some regulatory requirements for specific types of regulated data. Information that may not be maintained, shared, or processed when using Blue Jeans includes:
